The Premier League, officially known as the English Premier League (EPL), is the top professional football league in England. It was established on February 20, 1992, as a result of the rebranding of the First Division of the Football League. The inaugural season of the Premier League took place in 1992-1993.

The first team to win the Premier League was Manchester United, under the management of Sir Alex Ferguson. They clinched the title in the inaugural season, 1992-1993, and went on to dominate English football in the following years. Manchester United also hold the record for the most number of goals scored with a whopping 2,000 since the league’s inception.

The most recent Premier League title was won by Manchester City. Manchester clubs have dominated the Premier League over the years, with Manchester City dominating in recent years after Manchester United domination. Manchester United have also won the most Premier League titles in history, with a total of 13 championships to their name. They achieved this success under the management of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Alan Shearer holds the record for the most all-time goals scored in the Premier League. During his career, Shearer netted an impressive 260 goals, playing for clubs such as Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United. The player with the most all-time appearances in the Premier League is Gareth Barry. He made a total of 653 appearances during his career, representing Aston Villa, Manchester City, and Everton. Petr Cech, the former goalkeeper for Chelsea and Arsenal, holds the record for the most all-time clean sheets in the Premier League. He managed an impressive 202 clean sheets throughout his career.

When does the Premier League start?

The 2023/24 season of the English Premier League will commence on the 11th of August, with the final week finishing on May 19th, 2024. The season lasts longer because of competitions like the Champions League which takes place intermittent with domestic leagues.
