Lazio History

Lazio was founded in 1900 by a group of Roman athletes who wanted to create a football club that would represent the city of Rome. The team played their first match against Virtus in January of the same year and won 3-0. Lazio quickly established itself as a top team in Italian football, winning their first Italian championship in 1974 under the leadership of Tommaso Maestrelli. Lazio’s greatest period of success came in the late 1990s and early 2000s under the ownership of Sergio Cragnotti. During this time, Lazio won their second Italian championship in 2000, as well as the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in 1999 and the UEFA Super Cup in 1999 and 2000. Lazio also reached the final of the UEFA Champions League in 2000 but lost to Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Who Owns Lazio

Lazio is owned by Claudio Lotito, who owns a 66.70% stake in the club. Claudio Lotito is an Italian entrepreneur and politician. He has been the owner and president of Lazio since 2004.

Lazio Manager

Lazio’s current manager is Maurizio Sarri. Maurizio Sarri has managed Italian clubs at a range of levels. These clubs include Sansovino, Pescara, Arezzo, Avellino, Hellas Verona, Perugia, Grosseto, Alessandria, Sorrento and Empoli. Sarri then became manager of Napoli in 2015 and finished 2nd in his first season. He finished 2nd and 3rd multiple times while playing some fantastic football. His inability to win the league, however, saw him replaced in 2018. He then became manager of Chelsea and, in his first season, won the Europa League. This would be his only season, as in 2019, he departed for Juventus. Sarri only had 1 season at the club, where he won the league. Despite winning the league, he was sacked due to his poor cup form, being knocked out of both domestic competitions and being eliminated in the round of 16 in the Champions League. He then took over at Lazio and, in his most recent season, finished 2nd and could’ve had a good chance of winning the league if it weren’t for the unstoppable Napoli, who dominated the league.

Lazio 2023/24 Season Predictions

This season, we predict Lazio will finish in the Champions League. They have a very good squad led by one of the greatest Serie A strikers, Ciro Immobile, and have a very good coach in Sarri. Champions League football may be a hindrance in their season, but they should still be a dangerous side.
