The transfer window is open, and teams are looking to improve their squads and prepare themselves for the 2023/24 season. This season is bound to be another high-quality season, with a lot of the top teams being on a very even playing field, making for a very exciting and competitive league. Read this Balls Out Bet preview of the upcoming Serie A season.

Opening Day Serie A Fixtures

The opening day of any season is an exciting day as teams return from the preseason with their new signings and developed tactics and look to have a great start by winning their opening game. No fatigue, hopefully, no injuries and no form set in place yet. The opening fixtures are a great day for fans to see their team and develop an idea of how their team may be in the following season, particularly for Napoli fans who will want their form to continue. The opening Serie A fixtures include:

  • Empoli vs Verona
  • Frosinone vs Napoli
  • Genoa vs Fiorentina
  • Inter Milan vs Monza
  • Roma vs Salernitana
  • Sassuolo vs Atalanta
  • Lecce vs Lazio
  • Udinese vs Juventus
  • Torino vs Cagliari
  • Bologna vs AC Milan

All of these games will be exciting fixtures, as every team will want to start the season well. Some standout fixtures, however, will be Frosinone vs Napoli, Bologna vs AC Milan and Inter Milan vs Monza. All of the teams mentioned will be title favourites, and therefore, they will all want to get a good result in their first game. There are no rivalries, derbies or anything specific to look out for, and therefore, every game will be equally thrilling and enjoyable. However, those 3 fixtures will include the teams that can provide the highest quality of football and will make for the most interesting fixtures. Fiorentina continue to play in European competitions, so we can see them getting a result against Genoa in their first fixture.

Serie A Final Day Fixtures

The final day of the season is the most important day of the season for many clubs. With the League coming to a close, the final day provides teams with a final opportunity to give their fans a win or secure their goals. For example, a title race could be decided on the final day, who makes the European spots for competitions like the Europa League, and who avoids the drop. This can all be decided on the final day.

  • AC Milan vs Salernitana
  • Atalanta vs Torino
  • Cagliari vs Fiorentina
  • Empoli vs Roma
  • Frosinone vs Udinese
  • Genoa vs Bologna
  • Juventus vs Monza
  • Lazio vs Sassuolo
  • Napoli vs Lecce
  • Verona vs Inter Milan

All of these games should provide incredible entertainment as every team will play as if it’s their last game because it is. Empoli host Roma on the final day, and Roma could be pushing for the league title at this stage, so the game could be very fierce. You could get the chance to see some exciting youth players in teams whose fates are already sealed, and some future-deciding games could be played. The games we predict will be the most exciting are similar to the opening-day fixtures. The must-watch games will include the teams challenging for Europa Conference League and other European spots or the League. The Serie A is a very competitive league, and so by this time in the season, we should see many teams challenge at the top, and therefore, those teams will be the mist-watch games.

Serie A Winners 2023/24

Napoli won the Serie A title last season with 5 games left to play. They were able to equal their record and make history by winning the League for the 3rd time. They dominated the League early on and went on an unbeaten run of 15 games, only drawing twice in the process. This season Napoli will look to hold onto their star players and try to retain the League for another year. They have a very strong squad; however, they have yet to do much real business in the transfer window. Some players are bound to be sold, and some new players are gonna have to be brought in. Napoli are more than capable of winning the League again; they just need to make sure they don’t lose too many players and can strengthen enough to keep up with the likes of AC Milan and Inter Milan.

Speaking of Inter Milan, they will also be up there as title favourites after finishing 3rd last season and making it to the final of the Champions League. So far this transfer window, they have lost players such as Onana, Brozovic, Dzeko and Skriniar. They have made some defensive signings; however, if they want to compete for the title, they will need to bring in a high-quality goalkeeper as well as another midfielder. The players Inter Milan do have are of very high quality, with midfielders such as Barella, Gosens, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan and more. Going forward is where Inter excels, however, with attacking options of Joaquin Correa, Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram.

Finally, we predict Jose Mourinho’s Roma will make a strong title push this upcoming season. Roma won the Conference League in the 21/22 season and have since made it to the Europa League final the season after. They may have only finished 6th last season; however, without the pressure of Champions League football, they could really push on and challenge for the top spot. They have also strengthened really well so far in this transfer window compared to other teams. Roma have signed Evna Ndicka, Rasmus Kristensen, and Aouar and have Matias Vina returning from loan. They are a very strong squad that is only getting better. Paired with one of the greatest managers, they will be a hard-to-beat team next season.

European Places in the 2023/24 Serie A

Juventus finished 7th last season after receiving multiple point deductions. Juventus has one of the strongest squads in Serie A; however, in recent years, things just haven’t clicked. We believe this season; they will strengthen and make a push for the top of the table; however, we just think there will be other teams who will be harder to beat. Their most fierce rivalry comes against local side Torino, purely due to the locality of the two teams. Juventus could drop vital points in these fixtures.

AC Milan finished 4th last season after winning the League the previous season. With one of the strongest teams in the League, they will definitely challenge at the top end of the table; however, they have lost some of their best players and so far haven’t replaced them well enough. Granted, the window isn’t over; however, with other teams also strengthening, we believe they will finish in a similar spot to last season. In this transfer window, they have lost Ibrahimovic, Tonali, Brahim Diaz, Dest and Bakayoko and have replaced them so far with Christian Pulisic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, both coming from the English Premier League. Two decent signings but not good enough to challenge for the League.

Lazio had an incredible 22/23 season finishing 2nd in the League. However, we are not so confident they will be able to do the same. Usually, they are led by Ciro Immobile; however, now, at the age of 33, he only managed to score 12 goals last season, and he is rumoured to be moving away. Last season, the goals from Lazio were spread out amongst Immobile, wingers Zaccagni, Felipe Anderson and midfielder Serj-Milinkovic Savic. Savic has recently moved to the Saudi League as well. Both of their star players are looking to move on. Not only do they need to replace their world-class midfielder, but they also need to find a consistent goal scorer if they want to compete in Serie A.

Atalanta is another team that keeps getting better every season. With a young squad and some exciting talents, they are widely considered an underdog punching above their weight. However, after being at the top for so many seasons now, they have established themselves as one of the top teams in Italy. Their main striker, Hojlund, is on the cusp to a move to England where he will play for Manchester United.

Serie A Top Goal Scorer Prediction

The frontrunners for the golden boot in Serie A are Osimhen from league winners Napoli, Inter’s Martinez, Leao of AC Milan, Thuram, Lookman of Atalanta. Oshimen won the golden boot last season and will therefore be the favourite this season. Martinez is similar; finishing second last season, he will look to improve next season and therefore win the golden boot. Leao and Lookman are two young attackers who had fantastic seasons last season. Not nailed on contenders but definitely worth keeping an eye on this season. Thuram has recently signed for Inter Milan, and if he is able to take his form from the Bundesliga over, he will be a dangerous striker.

Serie A Most Assists Award Prediction

When it comes to the top assist providers, it could be anyone. Our top pick is Kvaratskhelia, who won it last season and was amazing the entire season for Napoli in his breakthrough season. As for other picks, any winger from the top teams could be in contention. This includes Leao, Kostic, Dybala, Pulisic and many more.

Some outside shouts for this award include Bologna’s Musa Barrow, who finished 3rd for assists last season with 8. Alongside him, Italian international Domenico Berardi who provided 7 assists for his club, Sassuolo, last season. Lovric of Udinese also provided a 12 G/A for his side last season, including 7 assists.

Serie A Cleanest Sheets Prediction

As is the theme in this League, Serie A is such a  competitive league that any goalkeeper from the top clubs could win this award. Rui Patricio is our pick due to Jose Mourinho’s defensive style of play.

Young Player of the Year for the Serie A 2023/24 Season

Our picks for this award are Kvaratskhelia, Scalvini, Fagioli, Miretti and Rovella. Scalvini has cemented his position in Atalanta’s defence, and if he is able to maintain his spot and help Atalanta achieve a European spot, he could be in contention.

Then there is Kvaratskhelia, who had an incredible season with 22 goals and assists last season. This upcoming season he will be one of Napolis star players, and if Napoli is able to replicate their success with Kvaratskhelia, he will definitely be up there for the best young player of the season.

Finally, we predict one of Fagioli, Rovella and Miretti to win the Young Player of the Year award. All of these players have had success breaking into the Juventus team. Whichever one of these players is able to push on and cement their place in the starting 11 could be in a good position to win the award, especially if Juventus perform well.

Relegation Battle for 2023/24’s Serie A Season

Verona last season stayed up on goal difference, and therefore, this season, we have them as favourites to go down. They simply lacked quality and were lucky to stay up last season as is.

Lecce is another team that struggled last season, only finishing 5 points above the relegation zone. As a result, we think they may struggle with angina this time out.

Genoa are one two promoted teams that we think will struggle. Newly promoted teams usually struggle in the first season; however, their drive to stay up is usually enough to get them over the line. We believe one of these teams will go down next season. Cagliari are the other side we think may struggle to stay afloat this season.

One team that shocked a few people last year was Monza, although we don’t think they will keep themselves as high in the table this year. Monza, along with teams like Salernitana, could struggle in the later stages.

Best Signings of the Serie A Transfer Window

The transfer window isn’t over yet, and how it finishes can decide many teams’ future and upcoming seasons. It’s important for teams to recruit well in order to compete in the top division.
