West Ham History

In 1919, West Ham became a member of the Football League and participated in the second division. Four years later, West Ham was able to gain promotion to the First Division. That same season they participated in the very first FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium. The crowd was over 200,000 strong. They lost to Bolton Wanderers, but that game has gone down in football history.

Despite a very passionate fanbase West Ham was quite an unremarkable club up until the 1950s when they focused on youth development and changed the structure of the club. They started to benefit from this restructure in the 60s when they won their first major honour, a FA Cup, in 1964. The following season they won the Cup winners cup. West Ham won two more

FA Cups in 1975 and 1980. Ever since West Ham has remained a consistent Premier League quality team, they haven’t competed for many trophies but have still produced many quality players over the years.

Who Owns West Ham United?

West Ham United is owned by British billionaire David Sullivan, however in 2021 Czech businessman Daniel Kretinsky bought a 27% stake in the club and was given the option for a full takeover which he declined.

West Ham Manager

David Moyes is a Scottish manager who has the record for the 3rd longest stay at a club and is also the 4th manager to reach 150 Premier League wins. He started his manning career at Preston North End and helped them avoid relegation. He then got them in the playoffs and the following season won the League 2 with Preston. In his first season in League 1 he got them in the playoffs once again before moving to Everton. He had a rocky start with Everton however after a few seasons established Everton as a top English club that consistently pushed the top 4 but only made it in once. He then went to Manchester United where he underachieved followed by poor spells at Real Sociedad and Sunderland. He then joined West Ham and helped them avoid relegation. A Season later he rejoined and has since helped them win their first trophy in 43 years.

West Ham Drama

West Ham supporters have been banned from their first away fixture in the 2023/24 Europa League campaign. The club has also been fined £58,000. This is due to the West Ham fans who threw objects onto the pitch and performed a pitch invasion after their first European trophy win. Fiorentina players Luka Jovic and Cristiano Birgahi were subject to injuries due to the match. Jovic received a broken nose and Biraghi had a bloodied face after both players were hit by objects thrown by West ham fans.

Who Plays For West Ham Now?

West Ham have an above average squad that they will look to add to this transfer window in order to compete in the Premier League. Their defence consists of Areola, Fabianski, Aguerd, Zouma, Kehrer, Ogbonna, Emerson, Cresswell, Ben Johnson and Coufal.

West Ham have a relatively young midfield that they will need to strengthen after the sale of Declan Rice. They currently have Soucek, Coventry, Downes, Paqueta, Fornals and Vlasic. Declan Rice has been sold for over £100.00m and as a result West Ham should have an increased budget to develop their squad.

In attack they have quality players such as Benrahma, Cornet, Bowen, Scamacca, Ings and Antonio.

What Have West Ham Won?

West Ham have been a solid club throughout the years that have bounced from the Championship and Premier League. They have won 1 Cup Winners Cup, 3 FA Cups, 1 Community Shield, and 2 English 2nd Tier Championships. Most recently they have also won their first European trophy last season when they won the 2022/23 Europa Conference League trophy.

West Ham 2023/24 Season Prediction

This season we at Balls Out Bet predict West Ham will finish towards the middle of the Prem table. After the sale of Declan Rice, West Ham United should have an increased transfer budget to develop their squad. If they invest poorly then West Ham will most likely be in and around the bottom end of the table and if they invest well they could push for Europa Conference however will most likely miss out to better teams and finish mid-table.
