Tottenham Hotspur History

Admitted to the Southern League in 1895, Tottenham attracted large crowds as they established themselves as title contenders. In 1901 they won the FA Cup becoming the only non-football league side to win the FA Cup. In 1908 the club joined the English football league and in the first season were able to gain promotion to the first division. They won another FA Cup in 1921 however then entered an uneventful spell for the next few decades. In 1951 they adopted a new style of play called ‘push and run’ which led them to their first league title.

In 1958 they appointed Bill Nicholson as manager and during his sixteen years in charge he won 1 league title, 3 FA Cups, 2 league cups, and 1 cup winners cup as well as the very first UEFA Cup. After his departure Tottenham were not as successful however they were still able to win multiple trophies and establish themselves as a competent cup team.

During the Premier League era Tottenham Hotspur have struggled for trophies, with their greatest achievements being finishing runners-up in the Champions League and Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur’s current manager is Ange Postecoglou. He is a manager not many people will have heard of until recently. He is a very experienced manager who has spent the majority of his career managing in lesser leagues. He first managed South Melbourne Hellas and helped them win the League and OFC Champions League. He then carried on managing different Australian teams winning trophies at every one. He then managed the Australian national team and helped them qualify for the 2014 and 2018 World Cup. During this time he also led Australia to winning the AFC Asian Cup. He then went to Yokohama and won the J-League in his first season, before moving to Celtic and winning 5 trophies in 2 seasons including 2 league titles. Now he is at Tottenham Hotspur and will look to replicate this success at a much bigger club. Who Plays For Tottenham Hotspur Now?

Spurs are in the process of a rebuild and as a result their squad has some talents, some exciting young players and some players who should have moved on by now. Their defence consists of new signing Viacrio, World cup winners Lloris and Romero, Dier, Sanchez, Udogie, Ben Davies, Porro and Emerson Royal.

Their midfield is very strong and has players such as Oliver Skipp, Hojbjerg, Ndombele, Bissouma, Lo Celso, Perisic and Maddison. Their attack has some exciting talents in the squad but its quality is dependent on whether or not Harry Kane stays or goes. As of right now they have Heung-min Son, Solomon, Gil, Kulusevski, Harry Kane, and Richarlison.

What Have Tottenham Hotspur Won?

Tottenham Hotspur was once a very successful team however they haven’t won a trophy since 1992. They have won 2 English 1st Division titles, 2  UEFA Cup winners, 1 Cup Winners Cup, 4 EFL Cups, 7 Community Shields and 2 English 2nd tier Championships. They are one of the most successful English teams in terms of FA Cups as they have won 8. Despite Tottenham consistently finishing or pushing for the top 4 they have had a distinct lack of silverware in recent seasons.

Tottenham Hotspur 2023/24 Season Predictions

Tottenham’s up and coming season is very hard to predict. Their season depends on how new signings such as Vicario perform, whether or not Harry Kane stays at the club, and how well Ange Postecoglou performs in the Prem. However with that being said after failing to qualify for any European spots last season this season they will be able to focus entirely on the league. As a result we at Balls Out Bet predict they will finish in the Europa League. This season will be an opportunity to rebuild the club so we do not expect them to qualify for the Champions League; however, with the quality in the squad they should be pushing towards the top end of the Premier League table
