With the 2022/23 English Premier League season over and the new season in the making, it’s no surprise that football fans are starting to get excited all over again. Manchester City finished last season by winning the treble, so fans will be hoping to see some other teams rise to the top and overthrow the dominant Manchester City.

Now with transfers being completed and teams back into training, this next season promises to be better than ever. This season will see teams like Luton Town FC play in the league, as well as top teams, who will strengthen further and potentially challenge for the title. In this article, we will go over some of the teams in the EPL as well as some of the biggest transfers that could shape the upcoming season. We have a dedicated article about Luton Town’s Premier League chances, so you can read that one, too! Whether you’re a die-hard Premier League fan or a casual football fan, this will be your guide to the upcoming Premier League 2023/24 season.

Opening Day Premier League Fixtures

The opening day is one of the most exciting and eagerly anticipated weekends in the Premier League. Granted, the opening fixtures take place over 3 days, not 1. It is still the biggest weekend of the Premier League for many fans. An opportunity to see fans’ favourite teams back in action as well as an opportunity to watch some of the new signings play brings opportunity for bets too, so stay tuned with Balls Out Bet

The opening fixtures this season will not fail to disappoint either, with the very first game of the season seeing Manchester City take on newly promoted Burnley on Friday, 11th August. This is bound to be a good game, as Vincent Kompany looks to try and beat his old club in his first-ever game as a manager in the Premier League. This game could be humbling for the newly promoted side as they take on one of the greatest teams ever. Alternatively, it could make for a massive shock if they are able to win and stunt Manchester City‘s title charge early.

Then across Saturday-Monday, we will see every other Premier League club play. These games include:

  • Arsenal vs Nottingham Forest
  • Bournemouth vs West Ham
  • Brighton vs Luton Town
  • Everton vs Fulham
  • Sheffield United vs Crystal Palace
  • Newcastle vs Aston Villa
  • Brentford vs Tottenham Hotspurs
  • Chelsea vs Liverpool
  • Manchester United vs Wolves

These fixtures will allow fans to see how their team has developed in pre-season as well as develop a feeling for how the rest of the season might play out. Some of the most exciting games among these include Chelsea vs Liverpool and Brighton vs Luton.

Chelsea vs Liverpool is a very early Big 6 clash, and it will be interesting to see how the two teams who had underwhelming seasons last time out have developed. It also provides an opportunity to see some of the new signings at both clubs.

Brighton vs Luton is an interesting fixture as it will be Luton’s first-ever game in the Premier League. Many players will want to watch this game to see how Luton plays and if they have the quality to stay in this division.

Premier League Final Day Fixtures

Similar to the opening day fixtures, the final day fixtures provide the most excitement for a lot of Premier League fans. At this point of the season, there are typically heated title-deciding games and fierce relegation battles. This final game decides a lot of clubs’ futures. Whether they win the League, get relegated, or qualify for European competition, the final day means so much to so many football fans. This final day will see games such as:

  • Arsenal vs Everton
  • Brentford vs Newcastle
  • Brighton vs Manchester United
  • Burnley vs Nottingham Forest
  • Chelsea vs Bournemouth
  • Crystal Palace vs Aston Villa
  • Liverpool vs Wolves
  • Luton vs Fulham
  • Manchester City vs West Ham
  • Sheffield United vs Spurs

These games will make for an exciting final day regardless of the combination of teams. However, with that being said, there are some games in there that individually will make for an intriguing watch. These games are Arsenal vs Everton, Burnley vs Nottingham Forest, and Luton vs Fulham. Although all of these games are very far away, and there are thousands of ways the EPL table could shape up from now to then, based on the Balls Out Bet predictions, these are some of the games we are most excited about.

Arsenal vs Everton could decide between a team that gets relegated and a team that wins the League. After last season’s performance, Arsenal will be pushing for the Premier League title, and if Everton continues in their current form, we wouldn’t be surprised if they were in a relegation battle at this point. As a result, this game could decide both teams’ fate.

Burnley and Nottingham Forest could be another relegation battle match. This game could very well be considered a 6 pointer at that stage in the League. Nottingham Forest struggled during some parts of the previous Premier League season, although they recovered and managed to increase their gap away from the drop. We expect Burnley to put up a good fight after proving that they were almost too good for the Championship.

Finally, there is Luton Town vs Fulham. If Luton Town are able to stay up, they will have the opportunity to celebrate this massive success at their home ground, which will make for a great day for Luton Town and EFL fans. This game is bound to be exciting and full-throttle; If Luton are in a position to stay up, they will give everything to make it happen, especially at home.

EPL Winners 2023/24

Manchester City have won 7 out of the last 12 Premier League seasons and have been one of the most dominant teams in English football in recent times. They have most recently not just won the treble but also won the Premier League for the 3rd time in a row, cementing themselves as one of the greatest English sides in history. With Pep Guardiola still in charge and with Erling Haaland upfront, Manchester City will be favourites to break yet another record and win the League for the 4th time next season. Erling Haaland broke the all-time Premier League goal record last season with 36 goals.

Manchester United are the other team who could challenge this following season. They had a short spell last season where it looked as though they could push for the title; however, a few bad results knocked them out of the title race. Despite this, Manchester United was able to win the EFL  Cup and make it to the final of the FA Cup. Erik Ten Hag has this Manchester United side playing attractive football, and with another year to develop his squad and style of play, they will be considered a threat next season. They have already completed the signing of Mason Mount, who will provide much-needed midfield depth, a position they have lacked in recent years.

David De Gea will also be leaving this season. De Gea has been an incredible player for Manchester United but held them back last season due to his inability to play out from the back. Despite this, Manchester United have now released De Gea and have brought in Inter Milan superstar keeper, Onana, who should keep them in the mixer for title winning.

Bruno Fernandes is constantly one of the top chance creators in the League; however, apart from Marcus Rashfrod, Manchester United lacks a consistent goal scorer to push the team forward. Manchester United will be in the market for a striker, and how well that player performs will likely dictate their following season.

Liverpool is an outside shout for the title this season, as they were poor last season. Finishing 5th, Liverpool will most likely be using their first team for Europa League fixtures allowing them to get rest other top teams won’t be able to afford. Liverpool currently has Salah, who has been one of the best attackers in the world for the last few seasons as well as Luis Diaz, Diego Jota, Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez. If Nunez is able to put away the chances he missed last season, this will be one of the most threatening attacks in the League, and with the new signings of Alex MacAllister and Dominik Szoboszlai, their midfield looks reinvigorated for this upcoming season.

European Places in the 2023/24 Premier League Season

Arsenal were leading the title race for large portions of last season, and this season, they will be looking to push yet again. Arsenal have a very strong attack with players like Bukayo Saka, who got 25 G/A, Martin Odegaard, who got 22 G/A, Gabriel Martinelli with 20 G/A, and Gabriel Jesus, who managed to get 17 G/A despite being injured for a large part of the season. With the youngest squad in the Premier League, Arsenal should only improve next season should they retain and build on their current players. They have currently signed Kai Havertz, who is a versatile player who can fill in for Granit Xhaka, Odegaard or any of the front 3.They have also confirmed the signing of former West Ham captain, Declan Rice, who is widely considered one of the best midfielders in the League, along with Jurrien Timber, who will help when it comes to squad depth both at right-back and centre-back. However, we at Balls Out Bet believe that Champions League football might be too much for them, and with other top teams strengthening, they could fall away and finish the Champions League.

Chelsea had an awful season last season, finishing 12th and almost being outscored by Erling Haaland. So far this transfer window, however, they have appointed Pochettino as manager and have had a massive clear out of players. Now with a smaller squad of high quality and a top manager, and no European football, we wouldn’t be surprised to see a newly invigorated Chelsea side push for Champions League places. They have signed Nkunku from Bundesliga side, RB Leipzig, who has been a top player in Europe in recent seasons and have a great young squad to build on this season with players such as Wesley Fofana, Badiashile, Reece James, Enzo Fernandes, Nkunku, Mudryk and Euro under-21 winners Madueke and Levi Colwill.

In all honesty, we at Balls Out Bet don’t see Newcastle United replicating their success this following season. The last time they played in the Champions League was in 2003, and their squad depth is not good enough to compete on multiple fronts. Even with new signings coming in, their bench will still contain certain players who aren’t good enough to compete at the top level next season. However, with this being said, after signing Tonali from the Serie A and looking to improve their squad further, it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise if they were able to qualify for the Champions League again. Eddie Howe is a great manager, and if they were able to do it last season, then there is nothing stopping them from doing it again this season with an improved squad. With that being said, other teams around them will also look to improve and may beat Newcastle to it.

Other teams that could push for European spots include Brighton, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur. These teams will be fighting for the Europa League and Europa Conference League, given one of the other top teams has had an awful season.

Premier League Top Goal Scorer Prediction

Haaland is the obvious shout after demolishing the Premier League goalscoring record in his first season in England. We predict he will do it again and be the top goalscorer. Other players who could do it include Harry Kane and one of Liverpool’s front 3. If Harry Kane stays at Tottenham Hotspur, he will be a threat in the golden boot race as he always is. Alternatively, we think one of Salah, Gakpo and Nunez could also be in contention.

Salah has been one of the best attackers in world football, and if Liverpool regains their form, he will be one of the best attackers in the League. Gakpo last season was one of the players with the highest outputs in Europe’s top leagues. If he is able to settle quickly and lock down a place in the starting 11, he could be an outside shout for top goal scorer.

Finally, Nunez had an underwhelming season last season, missing lots of opportunities. However, if he were to convert his chances, he would be one of the top goal scorers. If he is able to find form and become more clinical, he will become one of the top strikers not just in the Premier League but the world.

Premier League Most Assists Award Prediction

The frontrunners for this trophy have to be Trent-Alexander Arnold, Bruno Fernandes and Kevin De Bruyne. Kevin De Bruyne has been one of the best players in the world in recent years, and similarly to Haaland, he will be expected to win this trophy. Alexander-Arnold has been consistently one of the best assisters, and with his new role in the Liverpool side, we can see him having incredible output next season. Finally, Fernandes is the heartbeat of Manchester United, and he consistently creates the most chances in the League. If they are able to sign a consistent goal scorer, then Fernandes could be the top assist provider this season.

Premier League Most Clean Sheets

Our Balls Out Bet prediction for this is Nick Pope. Newcastle are an incredibly solid team defensively, and therefore, this season, they will be frontrunners to keep the most clean sheets.

Young Player of the Year for the Premier League 2023/24 Season

Every season, young players look to break into their team’s first 11 and become a regular. With so many young players, it can be incredibly hard to predict. There are already established young players, and there are players we have yet to discover. Our 2 Balls Out Bet predictions for this award are Garnacho and Rico Lewis.

If Garnacho can cement his place in the first 11 and continue to score goals and assist, he could become one of the top wingers in the League and win the Young Player Of The Year award. With Kyle Walker leaving Manchester City and them having a lack of full-backs, this could be Rico Lewis’s breakout season after impressing last season after showing the ability to play full-back and move into the midfield. Being compared to Phillip Lahm, if Rico Lewis is able to start most games and Manchester City go on to win more silverware, he could win this award.

A major outside shout, assuming he gets his game time, is the 20-year-old Crystal Palace player, Jesurun Rak-Sakyi. Rak-Sakyi played last season on loan at Charlton Athletic where he scored 15 and assisted a further 8 goals in 43 fixtures. At just 20, and with Zaha not playing, Rak-Sakyi could be a shining light.

Relegation Battle for 2023/24 Premier League Season

Bournemouth shocked everyone last season by escaping relegation by 5 points while also being able to win the same amount of games as Chelsea. Their defensive record was poor, however, conceding 71 goals, the 3rd highest in the League. Everyone thought they were going to go down last season, but they were able to do the impossible and stay up. This season, however, we don’t think they will be as lucky. With a small budget and a team that already doesn’t have the highest quality, Bournemouth will be favourites to go down. They have also lost their manager, Gary O’Neil, who managed to keep them up in the first place. Although they brought in a new manager early, we still have yet to see if this risk was worth it.

Sheffield United will be the favourites to go down. Despite having a better squad than Luton, Luton town’ small stadium and desire to stay up in their first-ever season in the Premier League might be enough to carry them over the line. Sheffield United, however, do not have these advantages. With a low-quality side and a small budget, we don’t imagine they will be able to recruit well enough to keep them up this season.

Burnley and Luton are the two other teams who earned promotion last season. Both teams will be in a relegation battle this season; however, we believe that both teams could stay up. As previously mentioned, Luton Town doesn’t want their fairy-tale story to end now and will be ready to fight to stay in the Premier League. Whereas Burnley, under the management of Vincent Kompany, has played some very attractive football with a talented young squad. If they are able to strengthen a few positions, we can see them surviving the drop.

Other notable mentions that struggled somewhat last season are Wolves. The Wolves squad is quite average, and they never seem to gel together as a club, although never really being relegated and managing to score enough goals to stay afloat in the top flight. With one of their key players, Ruben Neves, just leaving for the Saudi Pro League, they look to struggle, but the return of Adama Traore from the La Liga could be somewhat beneficial to their survival.

Brentford are also without their vital striker, Ivan Toney, due to his recent restrictions from playing the game. This could cause some issues for Brentford, putting them at risk of relegation if they do not step up their game with transfers and playing styles.

Best Signings Of The Premier League Transfer Window

The transfer window isn’t over, but how it plays out can decide many teams’ future and upcoming seasons. It’s important for teams to recruit well in order to compete in the top division.
