Cadiz History

Cadiz CF has a history dating back to their formation in 1910. The club played its first official match in February 1912, a 4-3 victory over Recreativo de Huelva, and quickly established itself as a force in Andalusian football.  In the 1920s, Cadiz enjoyed a period of success, winning the regional championship four times between 1923 and 1929. The club also made its first appearance in the Copa del Rey in 1926, reaching the quarter-finals before losing to real Madrid.  Cadiz spent much of the 20th century in the second and third divisions of Spanish football, but enjoyed several periods of success. In the 1970s the club won promotion to the top flight for the first time, and remained in La Liga for six seasons before being relegated in 1977. The 1980s were a great period for Cadiz, as the club enjoyed its most successful spell in history. In 1981, they won the Segunda Division and returned to La Liga, where they established themselves as a mid-table side. In 1989, Cadiz reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup, knocking out Tottenham Hotspur and Bordeaux before losing to Napoli.  In 1990, Cadiz won the Copa del Rey for the first time, beating Real Madrid 3-1 in the final. The club remained in La Liga until 1993, when they were relegated and began a period of decline that saw them drop as low as the fourth tier of Spanish football. In recent years, Cadiz has experienced a resurgence, winning promotion to La Liga for the first time in 14 years in the 2019-20 season. In their first season back in the top flight, Cadiz impressed with their solid defensive performances and finished 12th in the league.

Cadiz Manager

Cadiz’ current manager is Sergio Gonzalez Soriano, otherwise known as Sergio. Sergio began his managerial career at Espanyol B and then became the manager of the first team. Despite keeping Espanyol safe from relegation a below average spell saw him relieved of his duties. He then took charge of Real Valladolid, where he helped them finish 5th and get promoted. However when the team was relegated the following season he was dismissed. He then in 2022 took charge of Cadiz where he helped them avoid relegation and make the quarter-finals of the Copa Del Rey.

Cadiz Drama

In January 2023, then 18th placed Cadiz played Elche who sat at the bottom of the league. Cadiz went 1-0 up early, however, controversy arose after an 81st minute equaliser from Elche. Elche equalised with a goal from Ezequiel Ponce despite the fact he was in an offside position during the build-up. It was a clear mistake from the referees and after the game Cadiz president released a statement saying that the game should be replayed from the 81st minute. His statement was also quite damning of the referees and as a result the RFEF set up an investigation into his remarks.

Who Plays For Cadiz Now

Cadiz have a very mediocre squad featuring players such as Conan Ledesma, David Gil, Fali,, Victor Chust, Jorge Mere, Luis Hernandez, Momo Mbaye, Juan Cala, Javi Hernandez, Lucas Pires, Joseba Zaldua and Iza Carcelen. Their midfield features Thomas Alacron, Jose Mari, Ruben Alcaraz, Gonzalo Escalante, Fede San Emeterio, Youba Diarra, Martin Calderon and Alex Fernandez. Their attack consists of Darwin Machis, Brian Ocampo, Awer Mabil, Ivan Alejo, Sergi Guardiola, Ruben Sobrino, Milutin Osmajic, Roger Martin, Chris Ramos and Alvaro Nefredo. Their team is overall quite experienced, it just lacks quality to compete in the top half of the La Liga.

Cadiz 2023/24 Season Predictions

I think Cadiz will struggle this season. They are not nailed on relegation contenders but i think tey will have an underwhelming season. Their squad is great and their coach doesn’t have the bets win record or experience. They also have strengthened their squad much and therefore i think they will struggle.
