Opening Day La Liga Fixtures

The opening day of La Liga is one of the most heavily anticipated days of the season. It provides fans with an opportunity to see how their team plays as well as get a chance to see new signings.

The opening weekend features fixtures such as:

  • Almería vs Rayo Vallecano
  • Sevilla vs Valencia
  • Real Sociedad vs Girona
  • Las Palmas vs Real Mallorca
  • Athletic Bilbao vs Real Madrid
  • Celta Vigo vs Osasuna
  • Villareal vs Real Betis
  • Getafe vs Barcelona
  • Cadiz vs Alaves
  • Atletico Madrid vs Granada

These fixtures will be action-packed as all teams look to start the season off well. These games can influence how a team’s entire season will play out and are very important in starting the season right. Some of the most exciting opening games include Athletic Bilbao vs Real Madrid and Getafe vs Barcelona. Barcelona and Real Madrid are both title favourites, so all eyes will be on these two fixtures to see if they can both start the season off well. Real Madrid has the hardest challenge, however, taking on Athletic Bilbao, one of the most successful Spanish sides outside of Real Madrid and Barcelona.

La Liga Final Day Fixtures

The final games of the season are by far the most exciting games of the season. Despite the sadness that the league will be over after this game week, the final fixtures of the season can include title-deciding games, European spot clashes for the Champions League and other competitions, as well as fierce relegation battles. The final day of the season, depending on the state of the league, can decide factors such as who wins the league, who finishes in European spots and who gets relegated. Some of the final fixtures include:

  • Almeria vs Cadiz
  • Celta Vigo vs Valencia
  • Getafe vs Real Mallorca
  • Girona vs Granada
  • Las Palmas vs Alavés
  • Osasuna vs Villareal
  • Rayo Vallecano vs Athletic Bilbao
  • Real Madrid vs Real Betis
  • Real Sociedad vs Atletico Madrid
  • Sevilla vs Barcelona

These games will be thrilling contests as every club will want to end the season strongly. The games which will be the most exciting, however, will be Real Madrid vs Real Betis, Real Sociedad vs Atletico Madrid and Sevilla vs Barcelona. These games will make for a fascinating final day of the season. All fixtures see title contenders playoff against teams that will push for European spots.

Real Madrid will be favourites for the title this season, and this game could decide whether they win it. With that being said, Real Betis will be tough to beat as they will look to push for European spots.

Real Sociedad and Atletico Madrid are both teams that finished in Champions League spots last season, and this game could decide which of these teams finishes in Champions League spots next season. It should make for a really good game, given both teams can replicate the form from last season.

Finally, there is Sevilla vs Barcelona. Sevilla had an underwhelming season last season but will look to take back their place in Europe this season. A final game against Barcelona will be very tough, but at home, they will give everything to beat them in front of their home crowd. On the other hand, Barcelona will be looking to win the league again this season, and this game could help them cement it as long as they have a good season.

La Liga Winners 2023/24

Barcelona were able to win the league last season after bringing in their marquee signing, Robert Lewandowski, who topped the league with 23 goals. They have a strong squad with some of the best young talents in the world in Pedri and Gavi. They have an incredible attack and have bolstered their midfield and defence after bringing in Inigo Martinez from Athletic Club and Ilkay Gundogan, a midfielder who captained Premier League side, Manchester City, to a treble-winning season last season. They have a very strong squad and, as a result, will be touted as one of the favourites to win the league this season. Furthermore, their manager Xavi has proven himself to be a great coach at the top level.

Real Madrid has won the most La Liga titles with 35, and they will also be favourites for this upcoming season. With legendary manager Carlo Ancelotti at the helm, they will undoubtedly challenge for some silverware this season, whether it be the title or the Champions League. Real Madrid has one of the best squads in the world, with Courtois in goal and a backline consisting of players such as Carvajal, Militao, Alaba, Rudiger and new signing Fran Gracia. They then have the best midfield in the world with options such as Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Camavinga, Valverde, Tchouameni and new signings Arda Guler and Jude Bellingham from the Bundesliga.

Their midfield contains Real Madrid legends along with some of the best young prospects in world football. Their attack, however, is light. Vinicius Jr has shown to be a world-class talent, and Rodrygo is a top-quality player. Outside of that, they have Joselu, who was brought in on loan, and Brahim Diaz. Brahim Diaz has recently returned on loan from the Serie A with AC Milan, and it is still uncertain whether he will stay. Joselu is their own striking option at the club; he has been a consistent top goalscorer in La Liga; however, whether or not he is good enough to lead them to a title is unknown. Their season could depend on if they are able to bring in another attacking option to help replace legend Karim Benzema who has left for Saudi Arabia this season.

For as long as Real Madrid and Barcelona are firing, Atletico Madrid will always be 3rd favourites; however, with them winning the league in the 2020-21 season, as long as they are able to recruit well this season, they could very well find themselves in a title race this season. So far this transfer window, they have recruited Soyuncu and Azpilicueta, 2 Premier League quality defenders. They have also permanently brought in Antoine Griezmann, who was able to get 31 G/A last season in La Liga. A lot of players are also returning from loan, such as Renan Lodi and Joao Felix. If Atletico Madrid are able to sort through their squad and strengthen in certain areas, they could be serious title contenders, but if they remain with a similar squad to last season, we predict they will stay within the Champions League spot.

European Places in 2023/24 La Liga

The team that qualified for the Champions League last season was Real Sociedad. Real Sociedad had a fantastic season and will look to replicate that success this season. However, with their top goal scorer Sorloth leaving this transfer window, they will need to replace him. They haven’t been very active this transfer window but will need to if they want to compete again this season. Star players such as Kubo and Oyorzabal will need to step up if they aren’t able to bring in another attacker. Osasuna, finished in 7th and therefore qualified for the Europa Conference League.

Villarreal is another team that consistently competes for European places in Spain. This season they have had many departures with not a lot of incomings. They have let go of defender Pau Torres and centre-forward Nicolas Jackson who they will have to replace if they want to compete this year. However, with the large transfer fees they went for, they should be able to recruit it just depends on whether they are able to recruit well.

Athletic Bilbao is in a similar position to Villareal. Athletic Bilbao has been one of the most successful teams in Spain outside of Real Madrid and Barcelona and is consistently pushing for European spots, whether that be the Champions League or Europa League. This season they have lost Inigo Martinez and other defenders. They will need to recruit well if they want to contend this season; however, because of their unique transfer policy, which bans them from signing players outside of the Basque region, it could be quite difficult for them to strengthen this season.

Sevilla and Real Betis are two teams that will also contend for European spots. Both Seville-based teams have lots of quality and will look to push on. Sevilla had a poor season finishing 12th. However, after winning the Europa League, they will be competing in the Champions League next season. This should allow them to attract higher-quality players, and as long as they are able to balance both competitions, they should look to try and qualify for a European tournament this season, and could potentially search for Europa Conference League involvement next year. Real Betis, on the other hand, qualified for the Europa League last season and will look to steadily continue growing and establishing themselves as a top side in La Liga.

La Liga Top Goal Scorer Prediction

Immediately we can safely say that Robert Lewandowski will be the frontrunner for this award. Lewandowski won the award last season with 23 goals and outscored his main competition Benzema who also won’t be playing in La Liga next season. Some other picks for the Golden Boot would be Antoine Griezmann, Joselu, and Vinicius Jr. Antoine Griezmann finished last season with 31 G/A and scored 15 goals. He is the main man at Atletico Madrid, and he will definitely have another good season. We are just unsure if he has what it takes to win the Golden Boot.

Then there is Joselu, who is consistently one of the top goal scorers in the league despite playing for lower-quality sides like Alaves. Now he is playing for Real Madrid. As long as he is able to lock down a spot in the starting 11, his service will be much improved, and as long as he is able to take his chances, he could very well score 20+ goals next season. Then there is Vinicius Jr, who has been incredible the last 2 seasons scoring 10+ goals in each. Without Benzema, Real Madrid will be looking for a main goal scorer, and Vinicius could be the player to step up and start scoring more consistently. 2 seasons ago, he scored 17 goals. If he is able to replicate this and improve on it, he will be up there for the top goal scorer.

La Liga Most Assists Award Prediction

When it comes to most assists, there are many players who could win it. Last season saw many players from top teams deliver, with players such as Mikel Merino of Real Sociedad, Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo, Ousmane Dembele, Raphinha, and many more being among the top. Out of these, there is simply too much choice. Dembele was able to get 7 assists this season and got 13 the previous season, making him one of the favourites. Then there is Rodrygo and Vinicius Jr, who got 8 and 9, respectively. With Joselu in the side and these young players gaining experience, they will look to improve on last season’s impressive numbers. It’s important to mention new La Liga signings Gundogan and Bellingham, who will no doubt be great players and compete for this award. However, even with all these incredible things, if Antoine Griezmann has a season anywhere near as good as last, he will no doubt blow everyone away as he did last season. Merino and Vinicius Jr finished 2nd with 9 assists, whereas Griezmann won the award with 16 assists! If he is able to keep his form going, he will be the favourite.

La Liga Most Clean Sheets

Last season, Ter Stegen won the award after keeping 27 clean sheets! This season he is the favourite to do it again; however, Real Madrid has an incredible defence and Thibaut Courtois, who is widely considered one of the best keepers in the world. Then there is also Atletico Madrid, who have a very pragmatic style and are very solid defensively.

Young Player Of The Year Award La Liga 2022/23 Season

This league is jam-packed with young talents and quality players. The players who we think are most likely to win this award are Jude Bellingham, Rodrygo, Pedri, Gavi, Vinicius Jr, Camavinga, Tchouameni, Ansu Fati, and Nico Williams. All of these players have so much quality and will be in contention depending on how the season plays out; however, realistically, we believe it will be down to Bellingham, Pedri and Vinicius. These players are not only young but also star players in their respective teams.

Some underdogs for the award include Yeremy Pino of Villarreal, as well as Gabri Veiga who scored 11 and assisted 4 goals for Celta Vigo last season at just 21 years old. Sadly, the squads of teams like Rayo Vallecano are too old to have any players qualify for this award.

Relegation Battle for 2023/24 La Liga Season

The teams we predict going down are Almeria, Cadiz and newly promoted teams Las Palmas and Alaves. All of these teams lack quality and may very well be in a relegation battle this season. If they are able to recruit well and develop their squads, they could stay up; however, we believe these teams are most likely to go down.

Granada were the winners of the Segunda Division, although they will still be one of the teams risking relegation. They are a decent team, although performing much like a yo-yo in the Spanish leagues, bouncing between the top and second division year after year.

Another club who are somewhat of a yo-yo is Almeria, who finished 1 point above the drop zone last season, and were at risk of relegation throughout most of the year. The team at Almeria will be battling it out against other underperforming clubs like Valencia, although they finished 16th last season in one of their worst performances in years.

Our final consideration for the La Liga relegation battle is Cadiz, who have finished in the bottom half of the La Liga table since they were promoted following the 2019/20 season. There are many contenders for relegation this year, and the battle will come down to the final games of the season, as usual!

Girona finished 10th last season, although struggling throughout most of the La Liga stretch. They managed to beat other clubs in position, although rivals, Real Mallorca, finished 1 placed above them in 9th.

Best Signings Of The La Liga Transfer Window

The transfer window isn’t over yet, and how it finishes can decide many teams’ future and upcoming seasons. It’s important for teams to recruit well in order to compete in the top division.
